Over 50 Countries Back Ukraine At UNSC Meeting Convened By Russia

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Russia convened the UN Security Council's signature event on multilateral cooperation on Tuesday to divert the attention of the international community from Moscow's flagrant violations of the UN Charter and its abuses in the Security Council.

That's according to a statement co-signed by more than 50 countries, including Ukraine, which was read out ahead of the meeting by Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the UN, Sergiy Kyslytsya.

The authors of the statement once again condemn Russian aggression against Ukraine and reaffirm their unwavering support for the Political independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, and call on Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukrainian territory.

"In the true spirit of multilateral and international cooperation, we support the international efforts toward peace in line with international law, such as the Summit on Peace in Ukraine held in Switzerland presented such a vision," the statement said.

Also, the countries that have signed the statement condemn the direct military support provided to Russia by North Korea in violation of UN Security Council resolutions, as well as by Iran. It is stated that Belarus continues to make its territory and infrastructure available to Russia.

"We call on any UN member states providing material support to Russia's war effort, including dual use materials, such as weapons components, equipment, and raw materials, to cease all material and political support to Russia's war effort," the statement said.

The signatories welcome the recent adoption of the UN General Assembly resolution "Safety and Security of Nuclear Facilities of Ukraine, including the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant" and reiterate their urgent demand that the Russian Federation withdraw its military and other unauthorized personnel from the ZNPP and immediately return the plant to the full control of Ukraine to ensure its safe and secure operation.

As Ukrinform reported earlier on Tuesday, the UN Security Council event on multilateral cooperation is chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergei Lavrov. He is on July 16-17 at the UN Headquarters, taking advantage of the fact that Russia chairs the Security Council this month.
