Turkey's flour exports reach total of 1.8M tons in first 6 months of 2024

(MENAFN) Turkey's flour exports reached an impressive total of 1.8 million tons in the first half of this year, yielding USD680 million in revenue, according to a statement released by the International Association of Operative Millers (IAOM) Eurasia on Thursday. Eren Gunhan Ulusoy, the director of IAOM Eurasia, highlighted that this represents a 15 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

The primary destinations for Turkish flour exports during this period were Iraq, Djibouti, and Syria. Notably, there was a significant surge in exports to several countries, with Sudan seeing a remarkable 355 percent increase, Djibouti 323 percent, Egypt 291 percent, and Indonesia 105 percent, all year-on-year.

Looking ahead, the industry has ambitious goals. By the end of 2024, it aims to export 4 million metric tons (approximately 4.4 million tons) of flour, generating total revenues of USD1.5 billion. This target reflects the sector's robust growth and strategic positioning in the global market.

Turkey currently holds the title of the largest flour exporter worldwide, with a record export volume of 3.6 million metric tons (about 3.97 million tons) achieved in 2023. This continued upward trend underscores the country's dominant position in the global flour market and its expanding influence in international trade.
