Azerbaijan's ANAMA Reveals Number Of Nationwide Mine Victims Since 1991
He made the remark at today's 3rd International Conference onHumanitarian Demining on the topic“Mitigating Environmental Impactof Landmines - Resource Mobilization for Safe and Green Future” inZangilan.
“From November 2020 through May 30, 2024, 361 Azerbaijanicitizens have been affected by mines. Of these, 293 people (128civilians and 165 military servicemen) were injured, and 68 people(53 civilians and 15 military servicemen) were killed,” heemphasized.
Suleymanov added that currently, about 10,285 square kilometersof the country are contaminated to varying degrees by landmines,with estimates that up to 1.5 million landmines were laid duringthe occupation.
According to him, to date, 1,385 square kilometers ofAzerbaijani territory have been cleared of mines.
To note, the 3rd International Humanitarian Demining Conferenceis attended by over 300 delegates from 75 countries.
The participants include high-ranking officials from variouscountries, senior UN headquarters staff, representatives ofreputable international organizations and demining centers fromdifferent countries, as well as officials from accrediteddiplomatic missions in Azerbaijan.
