Kazakhstan Sees Collaboration With OECD As Very Important - President Tokayev

Kazakhstanconsiders cooperation with the Organisation for EconomicCo-operation and Development (OECD) of great importance, Presidentof Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said during a meeting with OECDSecretary-General Mathias Cormann on the sidelines of the BoaoForum for Asia, Trend reports.

"This region is an important economic entity, with Kazakhstanplaying a leading role, notably at the regional level. As Iindicated in my forum address, we emphasize engagement with theOECD, demonstrating our dedication to this alliance. Kazakhstanactively participates in the organization's committee meetings andstrives to follow its suggestions. One of my primary objectives isto align Kazakhstan's economic policies with the OECD's highstandards," he said.

Tokayev emphasized that Kazakhstan has signed a number ofimportant documents during its cooperation with the OECD. Inaddition, work is underway to join other mandatory legalinstruments of the organization.

In turn, Mathias Cormann reaffirmed the organization'scommitment to strengthening comprehensive cooperation with Asiancountries, including Kazakhstan.

"I believe that the relationship between Kazakhstan and the OECDis progressing positively. There is substantial potential forfurther expansion and consolidation in the future. It's encouragingto hear about Kazakhstan's commitment to harmonizing its policieswith OECD standards and best practices. We are fully prepared toextend our support and assistance to your reform program. Enhancingglobal cooperation to tackle the numerous challenges we confronttoday is of mutual interest to us," said the SecGen.

In addition, Tokayev underlined the importance of continuingwork on opening a regional office of the organization inKazakhstan. He also invited OECD representatives to participate inthe upcoming Astana International Forum.
