(MENAFN- Brazil-Arab News Agency (ANBA)) São Paulo – Brazil's poultry exports to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates grew in December 2023 compared to the same month of the previous year. According to information released this Monday (8) by meat lobby ABPA, shipments to the UAE, Brazil's third leading importer, expanded by 27%, reaching 44,300 tonnes. Saudi Arabia, the fourth main buyer, imported 39,500 tonnes, a 56.3% increase over December 2022. The foremost importer, Japan, imported 55,900 tonnes (up 53.9%), and second place China, 50,300 tonnes (up 8.5%). Pictured above, a poultry storage facility.

Data released by ABPA also showed that in 2023, the poultry export volume rose 6.6% over 2022 to a total of 5.14 million tonnes. Revenue increased 0.4% to USD 9.8 billion.

ABPA had already predicted an expansion of the export volume and revenue and, in this Monday's statement, said that“the good performance of the year” was consolidated with the December result. The last month of the year had the second-highest volume – 467,200 tonnes, 20.9% up from the same month in 2022 – trailing only behind March, which saw 514,600 tonnes shipped abroad. Export revenue tallied USD 818.9 million in December 2023, a 4.3% increase over the same month of the previous year.

“Despite the challenges of the year, marked by fluctuations of markets and production costs, the result was highly positive and confirmed the projections outlined by ABPA for the year, at the same time, pointing to the export trend we expect throughout 2024. For the first time, we surpassed the mark of 5 million tonnes exported,” said the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin, in the institution's release.
