Residents in Dubai deal with heart-wrenching losses amid conflict in Gaza
(MENAFN) In the midst of the Israel-Hamas war that continues to inflict devastation in Gaza, residents in Dubai are grappling with heart-wrenching losses and the constant fear of receiving tragic news. K.M., a Dubai resident, has lost five relatives in Gaza due to the conflict. She conveys her fear and anguish, explaining that every phone call she receives fills her with dread, fearing the loss of more family members. Despite her parents and relatives projecting resilience and optimism during their phone conversations, she knows the reality is that they are living in constant apprehension.
K.M. is not alone in her grief and anxiety. A.S., another UAE resident, shared a poignant account of losing a dear friend in the attacks. His friend, a former student in the UAE, along with his family, tragically lost their lives when a bomb destroyed their home. A.S. paid tribute to his late friend through a heartfelt social media post.
The conflict, which intensified on October 7 with an offensive by Hamas, has claimed hundreds of lives and taken numerous individuals as hostages. In response, Israel's retaliatory strikes have resulted in the loss of over 6,500 lives, including approximately 2,700 children.
For Alaaeddin Aburamadan, a Dubai resident working for a public relations agency, the conflict has led to the destruction of his parents' life savings in the UAE. His parents, who had spent 40 years in the UAE, returned to their newly built home in Gaza. Tragically, their home was bombed approximately two weeks ago. Fortunately, they were not present during the attack, as they had traveled to Egypt two months earlier for medical treatment.
Aburamadan remains in constant contact with his sister and her three children, all under the age of 14, who are currently sheltering in the south of Gaza. Their living conditions have become dire, with limited access to food and cooking gas (LPG) due to disrupted supplies. In the face of these challenges, Aburamadan's brother-in-law took significant risks to obtain gas and supplies from the city. The family has sought refuge in a three-story house along with 70 other people, adopting a shared responsibility system where each family contributes money to prepare meals for the entire household.
