Doha, Qatar: Sidra Medicine, a member of the Qatar Foundation, will host a conference this week focusing on women's wellness within a holistic context of prevention and health promotion.
Women's Health Conference 2023, under the theme 'Contemporary Issues in Women's Health,' will cover a broad spectrum of women's healthcare topics - prevention to diagnostics and therapeutics on October 27 and 28.
“At Women's Health Conference, we are also keen to provide a platform that will encourage an exchange of knowledge, expertise, and best practice methodologies that will help advance women's health care and quality of life,” Dr. Suruchi Mohan, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist and Education Lead for Women's services at Sidra Medicine (pictured) told The Peninsula.
Besides health, women's wellness encompasses a range of physical, mental, and emotional aspects crucial for overall health and quality of life.
A dedicated session on 'Updates in Women Wellness' will discuss several relevant topics during the Women's Health Conference 2023.
“Women's wellness, also known as women's health and wellbeing, refers to women's overall physical, mental, and emotional health. It encompasses a wide range of factors that contribute to a woman's quality of life and ability to lead a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle,” said Dr. Mohan.
“Women's wellness involves regular health check-ups, screenings, and preventive measures, essential for early detection and management of conditions such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, osteoporosis, and reproductive health issues,” she added.
Dr. Mohan said the session would focus on nutritional supplements to support women's health- an evidence-based approach, new modalities in obesity prevention and management- safety and efficacy of new therapeutics, a healthy transition towards menopause, optimising surgical scars, the importance of breast cancer screening and mental wellbeing.
The conference also aims to equip the participating healthcare practitioners with the appraisal of current evidence on the different interventions to promote women's wellness and describe the components of women's wellness across the reproductive and post-reproductive years.
Dr. Mohan emphasised that the topics discussed at the Women's Health Conference 2023 align with the holistic approach to women's health and wellness given at Sidra Medicine by expanding the line of services.
“Sidra Medicine provides a full range of health and wellness services for women of all ages,” said Dr. Mohan.
She said the wellness services include a maternity ward featuring luxury suites, fertility preservation services, cervical cancer screening and administering human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines, and aesthetic care services. Also, a clinic is dedicated to managing midlife women and beyond by providing a comprehensive and holistic approach to menopause.
“Our Executive Women's Health program offers an annual comprehensive health and wellbeing review for women. Women will receive a detailed assessment and personalised care plans and will be referred to specialised services if required,” said Dr. Mohan.
In advice, she said that it is essential that women are empowered with knowledge about the options available to them regarding their reproductive and gynecological health and wellbeing.
