Turkey saves 94 illegal refugees in Aegean Sea

(MENAFN) Turkey saved 94 illegal refugees in the Aegean Sea following they were illegitimately forced back into Turkish regional waters by Greek powers, the Turkish Coast Guard stated on Monday.

Coast guard troops saved 51 citizens after they detected sets of illegal refugees in rubber vessels off the shores of Dikili as well as Foca regions of the western Izmir district.

In the meantime, in a different procedure, coast guard troops also rescued 32 illegal refugees in rubber vessels off the shoreline of Bodrum province together with 11 others off the shore of Datca region of the western Mugla city.

An overall of 94 refugees were carried to local immigration establishments for legal operations.
Turkey as well as international rights factions have constantly criticized Greece’s unlawful act of forcing back illegal refugees, stating that it breaks humanitarian principles as well as global law by risking the lives of sensitive refugees, involving women and children.

Turkey has been a major transit spot for illegal refugees wanting to pass through Europe to begin new lives, specifically those escaping conflict and oppression.
