Media Campaign On Passive Smoking Kicks Off
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Amman, Aug. 13 (Petra) - Under the slogan "Our mission is to protect them," the Ministry of Health has initiated a media campaign aimed at educating people about the negative impact of tobacco consumption and the harmful effects of passive smoking on children's health.
The initiative is carried out in cooperation with the Royal Health Awareness Society (RHAS), the Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET), the global public health organization Vital Strategies, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM).
Coming in response to the high rates of smoking in the Kingdom, which reached 65.3% among men, the campaign also aims to garner support for Article No. 53 of Public Health Law No. 47, which forbids the use of tobacco in any form in public areas.
The campaign highlights that children's exposure to secondhand smoke can lead to serious illnesses like pneumonia and even the sudden death of infants.
This initiative is part of the regional campaign United Against Tobacco and COVID conducted by the EMPHNET in Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, and Iraq and funded by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
