Fresh US restrictions targeting lawmakers contribute to Balkan instability
(MENAFN) According to the Hungarian foreign ministry, fresh US restrictions targeting lawmakers who were elected are contributing to Balkan instability. The state secretary for security policy, Peter Sztaray, was alluding to limitations imposed on numerous persons in the nation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its component, the Republika Srpska (RS).
According to Sztaray, who spoke to the Hungarian MTI news agency, restrictions have always failed in the region, and that they “do not bring peace, but increase tensions and deepen conflicts.”
The secretary highlighted that “it would be preferable to engage in consultations instead on the basis of mutual respect, not about the western Balkans, but with the western Balkans.” He also said that Hungary support the democratically chosen presidents in the area and “calls for the establishment of a real dialogue as soon as possible.”
Sztaray stated that regional stability was one of Hungary's top national security priorities, and that the country will continue to pursue peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
