Us Treasury Secretary Yellen Affirms Support For Jordan's Recent Fiscal Successes

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN - A government delegation, headed by Minister of Finance Mohamad Al-Ississ met with US Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen in Washington, DC, on Tuesday.

Yellen congratulated Jordan on its successful financial policies, emphasising the importance of continuing economic reform policies at the same pace, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

She referred to the long-standing friendship and alliance between his majesty King Abdullah, His Majesty the late King Hussein and the US.

During a recent meeting with King Abdullah, US President Joe Biden reaffirmed his country's unwavering support for Jordan as "an ally and a force for peace in the region".

Yellen said that the US Department of the Treasury has a "solid" partnership with Jordan, and looks forward to enhancing the partnership in collaboration with the visiting Jordanian economic delegation.

She noted that Jordan, like the rest of the world, has been affected by recent global events such as climate change and the food security crisis induced by the Russia-Ukraine war.

The secretary praised the government's solid measures to address said challenges and forge a path of rapid, safe and inclusive growth.

Yellen also commended Jordan's recent completion of the sixth International Monetary Fund programme review, noting that it was carried out "smoothly and quickly", in accordance with the essential reform measures Jordan has implemented.

The delegation comprised Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan, Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan Adel Sharkas and Secretary-General of the Ministry of Finance Abdul-Halim Shibli.
