Erdogan: Turkiye Raises Relations With Gulf Countries To Strategic Partnership

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISTANBUL, July 21 (KUNA) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday his country was strengthening cooperation with the Arabian Gulf countries which would reward the Turkish economy.
"We agreed on the continuation of our consultation and coordination on regional issues. Regional issues should be addressed through regional cooperation," Turkiye's Anadolu Agency quoted him.
President Erdogan was speaking to reporters aboard the presidential plane while returning from a trip that took him to three Gulf countries - Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Turkiye's relations with Saudi Arabia have entered a new era with the signing of five win-win agreements, including the biggest defense and aerospace export contracts in Turkiye's history, he noted.
On the visit to Doha, Erdogan said Turkiye and Qatar marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, adding that he agreed with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to further extend "excellent" cooperation in various fields.
Dealing with his visit to the UAE, Erdogan said Ankara and Abu Dhabi signed a total of 13 deals worth USD 50.7 billion.
There is a substantial potential between Turkiye and the UAE in the areas of trade and investment, Erdogan said
"With the joint agreement we signed, we have raised our relations to the level of a strategic partnership," he stated.
"We established a high-level strategic council mechanism. With the establishment of the mechanism, we have provided a platform where we can discuss issues on our agenda at the highest level," he went on.
"All these agreements, beyond their monetary rewards, are signs of the Gulf countries' trust in Turkiye's economy and industry," he added.
President Erdogan arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Monday to meet King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, before proceeding to Qatar the following day and then to UAE on Wednesday.(end)
