Students LGBTQ identification at Ivy League school increase by 40 percent
(MENAFN) One of United States most respected schools, Brown University, has seen an increase in LGBTQ sexual references over the past ten years, with almost four in ten students now classifying as something other than straight.
A survey in the previous month conducted by the Ivy League university’s newspaper, the Brown Daily Herald, found that 38 percent of pupils now classify as LGBTQ. That compares with 14 percent to thirteen years ago, the first year from which info was accessible.
Most of the increase has appeared in the past three years. In fact, almost 80 percent of pupils still recognized as straight as recently as four years ago.
A Washington Examiner statement on Sunday proposed that Brown’s jump in LGBTQ identification mirrored a “social contagion” – rather than a dramatic change in the pupil physical sexual reference or an abrupt increase in confidence to publicly talk about LGBTQ identities.
