Egypt's Al-Sisi Congratulates Greek Pm Mitsotakis On Election Victory

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has congratulated Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on his election victory, saying that the results reflect the Greek people's confidence in his leadership.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis won a decisive victory in the June 25 national election, securing a second term in office and a clear majority in parliament. Mitsotakis's New Democracy party won 158 seats in the 300-seat parliament, giving him the mandate to push ahead with his economic reform plan.
On Saturday, Mitsotakis's new government won a key vote in parliament, clearing the way for him to implement his plans to rebuild the country's credit rating, create jobs, raise wages, and cut taxes.
In a Saturday phone call, Al-Sisi expressed Egypt's pride in its strong cooperation with Greece and stressed the keenness to continue enhancing it at all levels, whether bilaterally or within the framework of the tripartite cooperation mechanism with Cyprus.
Mitsotakis expressed his gratitude to Al-Sisi, confirming the strength and distinction of the relations between Egypt and Greece. He also expressed his country's mutual interest in enhancing joint cooperation with Egypt on various levels, as well as continuing intensive consultations on issues of common interest, especially those related to developments in the Eastern Mediterranean region, as well as the repercussions of current crises in the global economy, food, and energy levels.
Greece and Egypt have enjoyed close relations for centuries, dating back to the time of the ancient Greeks. These relations have continued in recent years, with both countries working together on a number of issues, including security, trade, and energy.
Under Al-Sisi, Egypt has sought to strengthen its ties with Greece. In 2014, the Egypt, Greece and Cyprus launched the trilateral cooperation mechanism, and in 2020, Egypt and Greece signed an agreement on Thursday designating an exclusive economic zone in the eastern Mediterranean between the two countries
In 2020, Greece and Egypt held a joint military exercise in the Mediterranean Sea. The exercise was seen as a sign of the growing cooperation between the two countries in the face of common threats, such as terrorism and illegal migration.
