Art Fairs And Festivals 2023

(MENAFN- USA Art News) Last year, the pandemic disrupted the exhibition calendar in the art world. But now these art events have been constantly resumed, with some of them changing dates several times. Two new art fairs were also opened. This year, we advise you not to miss Tokyo Gendai, which is scheduled to open in July in neighboring Yokohama.

Below, you will find the most important art events that you can still visit this year.

Tokyo Gendai, Yokohama

While most of the people who regularly attend art events take summer vacations after Art Basel ends, Art Assembly opens a new Tokyo Gendai fair in early July. Taking place at a convention center in nearby Yokohama, the fair, led by Eri Takane, will bring together 80 to 100 exhibitors. The fair will be a serious test of the strength of the Japanese market and its comparison with the markets of Seoul, Taipei, Singapore and Hong Kong, the latter of which has long been prominent in Asia.

Frieze Seoul and KIAF

Location: COEX

Preview Day: Wednesday, September 6

General Admission Days: Thursday, September 7–Saturday, September 9

Single-Day Ticket Price: 60,000 KRW (about $46) for early bird.

For its second edition, Frieze Seoul will once again team up with local KIAF. Both of them will open on the same day at different levels of the huge COEX convention center in the Korean capital. All the eyes of the art world were on Seoul last September when the first Frieze exhibition took place. And this is not surprising since the art market in South Korea has heated up. With two new competitors in the region, ART SG in Singapore and Tokyo Gendai, the fair's sophomore will test if the fair can maintain the same vigor as in 2022.

The Armory Show will return for the third time in a new slot after Labor Day at the Javits Center. The list of exhibitors is still being formed. The 2022 show saw significant growth in fair size, from 160 exhibitors in 2021 to over 240 last year. It is likely that the art event will remain the same scale. For its 2023 edition, the fair has enlisted three of the world's most closely followed curators – Eva Respini, Candice Hopkins, and Adrienne Edwards – to host a special program that includes a working section on historical storytelling.

One of London's most celebrated contemporary art fairs, Frieze, will return this October, alongside the Frieze Masters, which will celebrate works created before 2000. As with previous versions, this Frieze will likely contain around 160 galleries. Frieze Satellite Fair is 1-54, which will host a London iteration that same week.

Paris+, par Art Basel

Location: Grand Palais Éphémère

Preview Day: Wednesday, October 18

General Admission Days: Thursday, October 19–Sunday, October 22

Single-Day Ticket Price: €40 (around $44 as of June 2023).

After a surprise coup against the Paris FIAC in 2022 for the Grand Palais, Art Basel launched the successful and widely acclaimed first edition of Paris+ last October. Now that FIAC has all but disappeared, the event is likely to become the main art fair in Paris, which is essential. After Brexit, the French capital has seen an increase in art trade. Whether the momentum will continue into 2023 remains an open question. But during a press conference dedicated to its opening, the director of Paris + Clement Delepin promised that the fair will only get better in the next editions.
