CEO of United Airlines apologizes for leaving New York when passengers were stuck
(MENAFN) Scott Kirby, the CEO of United Airlines, issued an apology on Friday for leaving the New York region earlier this week on a private jet when the carrier had thousands of passengers stuck as a result of many flight cancellations.
“Taking a private jet was the wrong decision because it was insensitive to our customers who were waiting to get home," In a statement sent by the airline, Kirby noted. “I sincerely apologize to our customers and our team members who have been working around-the-clock for several days, often through severe weather, to take care of our customers.”
Kirby promised to "to better demonstrate my respect for the dedication of our team members and the loyalty of our customers" in his closing statement.
On Wednesday, Kirby boarded a private jet from Teterboro, New Jersey, to Denver as United cancelled 750 flights, or a quarter of its daily schedule. Flights on United Express are not included in that number.
