(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Egypt has welcomed the announcement by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar of the re-establishment of diplomatic representation.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Monday, Egypt praised this positive step on the path of strengthening joint Arab action and consolidating the unity of the Arab ranks. It affirmed its support for all efforts aimed at strengthening Arab relations at various levels and protecting the interests of the brotherly Arab peoples.
The United Arab Emirates and Qatar have decided to restore diplomatic representation by resuming the UAE embassy in Doha, the Qatari embassy in Abu Dhabi and its consulate in Dubai on Monday
The official Emirates News Agency (WAM) published a report saying:“The UAE and Qatar decide to re-establish diplomatic representation. This is due to the resumption of operations by the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Doha, the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Abu Dhabi and its Consulate in Dubai on 19 June 2023.
The decision comes after relations between the two countries have improved significantly in the past two years, since the signing of the Al-Ula Agreement in early 2021.
Relations between the two countries were strained after Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt imposed a diplomatic and economic boycott on Doha in 2017.
“The Emir of Qatar, Sheik Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, visited the UAE in May 2022 and paid his respects at the death of the late UAE President, Sheik Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, while UAE President Sheik Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited Doha in December 2022.”
