Japan's Reconstruction Agency To Help Ukraine Restore Affected Areas

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine and the Reconstruction Agency of Japan agreed on the exchange of experience in eliminating the consequences of natural and man-made disasters, as well as the provision of advisory and technical support for Ukraine's recovery. The corresponding memorandum on cooperation and promotion of sustainable urban recovery was signed by Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov and Minister for Reconstruction of Japan Hiromichi Watanabe, Ukrinform reports with reference to the Ministry's press service .
"The experience of the Reconstruction Agency in restoring infrastructure after the Great East Japan Earthquake, recovery of the affected areas is invaluable to us. Especially now, when the Russian terrorist act of explosion at the Kakhovka HPP led to one of the biggest man-made disasters in Europe in recent decades. The successful experience of our Japanese colleagues will allow us to avoid many mistakes when planning and implementing restoration projects, and therefore we will be able to save time and do everything much faster and more efficiently," Kubrakov said.
The parties came to the conclusion that before the start of a full recovery, the key is to ensure the basic needs of the population of the affected communities. This, in particular, concerns housing, critical infrastructure (heat, water, and electricity supply systems), and the restoration of economic activity in communities. And that is why the Ministry of Restoration and the Reconstruction Agency will soon intensify the exchange of experience in this area.
As reported, since the beginning of 2023, Ukraine and Japan have agreed on the disbursement of more than $600 million for Ukraine's reconstruction needs.
