In protest of the new corporate policy that prohibits third-party apps, various sub-communities, including prominent crypto communities, unanimously decided to go private for 48 hours.
In April, reddit announced its intentions to change how users engage with the Reddit Data application programming interface (API). This service has been in operation for seven years, enabling developers to create tools and utilities for moderation and other activities.
The company's recent announcements, particularly the implementation of controversial fees for developers of third-party programs used to explore the social media network , have faced significant resistance from most developers and users.
Reddit's desire to develop its moderator tools directly impacts the community's ability to design and utilize third-party solutions for managing content and interactions. Since these controversial changes have not been well-received by users, administrators of several major subreddits have decided to make their communities private for more than 48 hours as a form of protest.
Based on the reports, it is expected that approximately 3,500 subreddits would become inaccessible to the majority of users due to a reaction. For those unfamiliar, a subreddit is a forum within the website where individuals come together to discuss a shared interest resembling a community.
The affected subreddits include well-known crypto groups that have played a significant role in enabling millions of investors worldwide to engage in debates regarding various aspects of the crypto ecosystem.

Noteworthy communities such as r/Bitcoin, r/CryptoCurrency, and r/cardano, dedicated to discussing Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, have criticized this action. Additionally, the company has faced backlash for implementing charges for accessing its data API.
