Environment Ministry, Global Green Growth Institute Sign Cooperation Mou

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN - The Ministry of Environment on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) with the aim of enhancing partnership and cooperation in the field of green growth.

Environment Minister Muawieh Radaideh and Deputy Director-General and Head of Green Growth Planning and Implementation Division at GGGI, Helena McLeod, signed the memo, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The memo will provide a framework for partnership and facilitate cooperation between the two sides in implementing a comprehensive green growth agenda to support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement.

Radaideh stressed the importance of the MoU in enhancing planning, financing and building institutional frameworks for national green growth by boosting the implementation of the national green growth action plan and supporting initiatives to provide access to green jobs, particularly in the key sectors of green growth, such as agriculture, energy, tourism, transport, water and waste management.

He noted that these sectors boost Jordan's readiness to receive and manage climate financing from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) noting that several climate-related projects could be financed by GCF. They also enhance public-private green investment in Jordan and maximise the role of the ministry in this area.

For her part, McLeod commended Jordan's role in green growth, its operational procedures in this area and its high response to the implementation of joint plans and programmes in accordance with the partnership programme through direct access to the GCF with technical and technological support from GGGI.

She stressed the institute's interest in activating partnership and cooperation with the ministry, development partners and the private sector through existing and future projects.
