(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Turkish incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan won Sunday the presidential run-off with 52.87% to lead his country for more 5 years in his third term as president. His rival Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the head of the Republican People's Party (CHP), founded by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk the founder of the republic, received 47.13%.
More than 60 million Turks were eligible to vote in the second round of the presidential elections.
Over 1.9 million Turkish voters living abroad cast their ballots in the election that is believed to be a decisive step in the history of Turkey.
According to the state-run Anadolu Agency, 1.92 million voters cast their votes in the second round of the elections until Saturday evening, at diplomatic missions and border crossings.
Voter turnout in the Turkish elections is usually high. In the second round of the elections, the voter turnout recorded 85.24%, while on the 14 May round, voter turnout was 87.04%, with 88.9% in Turkey and 49.4% abroad.
In the first round of voting on 14 May, Erdoğan received 49.5% of votes. Kılıçdaroğlu, the candidate of the six-party opposition alliance, collected 44.9%, while Sinan Oğan finished third with 5.2%.
While Kılıçdaroğlu was supported by the Kurdish block, Sinan Oğan announced his support for Erdoğan in the second round.
