Improvements need to be done to limit unemployment rate in Jordan

(MENAFN) Jordan is still recovering from the effect of the epidemic but authorities must make important financial and governance improvements to deal with peak numbers of unemployment, as stated by the International Monetary Fund on Wednesday.

“Structural reforms are essential,” as stated by the International Monetary Fund at the end of a trip to Jordan by many senior representatives to conclude the sixth evaluation of the nation’s financial reform program, that began in 2020.

The evaluation, that would still need to be accepted by the IMF's board, would convey the organization’s overall funding for reforms in Jordan to USD1.75 billion, surging from USD1.70 billion in December, when the earlier review was showed.

Nevertheless, the IMF showed that the 22.9 percent joblessness in the nation, that it defined as high, “particularly among the youth and women”.

It claimed: “promoting competition, increasing labour market flexibility, and enhancing governance and transparency” were among the important procedures that authorities had to consider.
