Regional Network Convenes In Amman To Discuss Women's Access To Leadership Positions

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN - A regional network to ensure gender equality in the public sector convened in Amman on Monday to discuss ways to increase women's access to government leadership positions.

The Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW) said that the network, whose membership includes Jordan, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia, aims to provide opportunities for training, education and support for women in all fields, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The network also seeks to raise societal awareness of the importance of gender equality and addressing challenges related to women's issues in reaching leadership and decision-making positions, JNCW noted.

Speaking at the meeting, JNCW Assistant for Technical Affairs Nisreen Sayed highlighted the importance of supporting women's access to decision-making positions in political, economic and public sectors and increasing their participation in public life, in line with the outcomes of Jordan's three modernisation tracks.

Secretary-General of the Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Ali Khawaldeh said that the ministry has launched educational and awareness programmes to encourage Jordanian women to participate in political, partisan activities and elections to reach decision-making positions.

Tala Khreis, Country Director-Jordan at the Forum of Federations Programme, expressed the programme's commitment to cooperating and coordinating with all partners to achieve goals in promoting a culture of equality and empowerment of women in society.
