FIBA World Cup Trophy Embarks on Global Tour Ahead of 2023 Basketball Event

(MENAFN) The FIBA World Cup Trophy is set to embark on a global tour, with Tehran, the capital of Iran, being the first stop on May 12. The tour will also include a visit to Isfahan two days later. During its journey, the trophy will make stops in 30 nations before returning to the host countries in time for the global basketball showcase. The tour, presented by J9, was officially launched last weekend as part of the festivities that marked the FIBA World Cup Draw at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Named in honor of basketball's inventor, Dr. James Naismith, the FIBA Basketball World Cup Naismith Trophy will embark on a journey across the globe for the second time. It will return to Japan in mid-July, followed by Indonesia, and finally, the Philippines, where the final phase of the FIBA Basketball World Cup will be held. This year's event will be the 19th edition of FIBA's flagship event and take place for the first time across three host nations in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia from August 25 to September 10.

According to Frank Leenders, Director General of FIBA Media and Marketing Services, the Trophy Tour is an important opportunity to generate more interest in the tournament and basketball worldwide. The tour provides basketball fans across the globe with the chance to get up close and personal with the iconic Naismith Trophy, which is awarded to the winners of the FIBA World Cup.

It is worth noting that Iran's basketball team is drawn in Group G together with Spain, Ivory Coast, and Brazil in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. The Trophy Tour is a much-anticipated event that brings excitement and anticipation to basketball enthusiasts worldwide ahead of the world's most significant basketball tournament.
