Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Project For Development Of Historical Mosques To Renovate 1300-Year-Old Al-Bay'ah Mosque In Makkah

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Riyadh, April 18, 2023, SPA -- The Al-Bay'ah mosque, built 1300 years ago by the Abbasid Caliph Abu Jaafar al-Mansur in Makkah, will undergo an overall renovation process as part of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques, in its second phase. This reflects the Kingdom's keenness to consolidate the Islamic civilization of the Kingdom and restore life to sites that had a historical and social impact in shaping the human, cultural, and intellectual surroundings, and restoring the religious, cultural, and social role of historical mosques.
The Al-Bay'ah mosque, built in 144 AH near Jamrat al-Aqaba in Mina, is one of the mosques targeted for development due to the importance it represents in its biography. It has unique architectural characteristics based on a set of artistic and contextual values in architecture and construction.
The Prince Mohammed bin Salman project for the development of historical mosques aims to restore the Al-Bay'ah Mosque in the architectural style of the western region, covering an estimated area of 457.56 square meters, with a capacity to accommodate 68 worshippers at one time. The building is characterized by the architectural style of the western region, withstanding the surrounding natural conditions. The historical mosques in that area constitute architectural masterpieces that reflect an elaborate building culture of moulded bricks, gypsum, and wood. The mosques are characterized by the simplicity of the design of the facades.
Al-Bay'ah mosque is part of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques, which includes 30 mosques in all regions across the Kingdom.
