Sistan-Baluchestan Province Equips Over 1,200 Hectares of Agricultural Lands

(MENAFN) In the past Iranian calendar year 1401, which ended on March 20, Sistan-Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran equipped a total of 1,249 hectares of lands with modern irrigation systems, according to a provincial official. The acting director of water and soil in the province's Agriculture Department, Hossein-Ali Ramroudi, announced that the fund allocated for implementing modern irrigation projects in the province was 450 billion rials (approximately USD958,000) in the previous year.

Sistan-Baluchestan is one of the provinces in Iran with low rainfall, with an average annual rainfall of 100 mm. In order to make the most of the available water sources, the use of modern irrigation systems for agricultural fields and gardens is necessary and vital. Ramroudi emphasized the importance of equipping these lands with modern irrigation systems to increase productivity and sustainability of water and soil resources in the country, ensuring the sustainable production of agricultural products.

The Iranian Agriculture Ministry's smart irrigation systems development program is aimed at minimizing human intervention in irrigation management and planning by using new technologies. Fariborz Abbasi, the head of the Agriculture Ministry's Water and Soil Department, explained that the purpose of implementing this plan is to increase the productivity and sustainability of water and soil resources in the country to ensure the sustainable production of agricultural products.

Over the past four years, an average of 150,000 hectares of farmlands have been equipped with modern irrigation systems each year, with a 300 percent jump witnessed in the implementation of these systems. The Agriculture Ministry is also taking necessary measures to support the domestic manufacturing of equipment used in these systems.

Equipping lands with modern irrigation systems is an important step towards ensuring food security and sustainable agricultural development in Iran. With the implementation of these systems, the country can make the most of its limited water resources and increase productivity in the agricultural sector. This is especially important in regions like Sistan-Baluchestan, where water scarcity is a major challenge for agricultural production. By investing in modern irrigation systems, Iran is taking a significant step towards achieving its goals of sustainable agricultural development and food security.
