Amman, Apr. 6 (Petra)-- Minister of Culture, Haifa'a Najjar, on Wednesday evening, inaugurated Jordan's first Ramadan book fair, which is being held by Union of Jordanian Publishers (UJP), at the Amman International Motor Show (AIMS) and will continue until April 14.
Najjar toured pavilions of the participating 50 local publishing houses, which display thousands of publications of Jordanian, Arab, and international writers and thinkers.
The fair aims to stimulate reading practices during Ramadan and support Jordanian publishing houses and culture producers by holding a local event that displays various publications at promotional prices, the ministry said in a statement.
Najjar, in her interview with "Petra," said the ministry supports all workers in the Kingdom's cultural sector and welcomes "creative" initiatives to create a "qualitative" movement in this regard.
The minister also valued the initiative to hold Ramadan book fair to support Jordanian publishing houses and writers, as the event sells books for all family members at "affordable" prices.
During the fair, cultural activities will be held with participation of public sector institutions and cultural figures, the statement pointed out.
