Survey reveals majority of Russians working abroad eager to return home

Date:

(MENAFN) Forbes recently reported that a majority of Russian citizens who are currently working abroad are keen to return to their home country. The report cited a survey conducted by research company Yakov & Partners and staffing agency HeadHunter, which found that 62 percent of respondents are eager to return to Russia in the near future. The reasons for this desire to return vary, with many citing personal circumstances, better career opportunities, and a more promising economic outlook for the country as a whole.

The report comes at a time when Russia is facing an outflow of residents due to the conflict in Ukraine and the resulting Western sanctions. The situation was further exacerbated last year when partial mobilization was announced in September. The exact number of Russians who have left the country is unknown, but some estimates suggest that it could be close to 1 million. However, Russian officials have not confirmed these numbers, and there is still some uncertainty about the true scale of the outflow.

Despite the challenges faced by Russia in recent years, the survey conducted by Yakov & Partners and HeadHunter suggests that the tide may be turning. Elena Kuznetsova, a co-author of the survey, notes that "we can expect the migration flow that emerged in 2022 to change its direction in the next year or two." This is supported by the fact that while 58 percent of respondents expressed a desire to leave Russia for better career opportunities, only 6 percent said that they were actively looking for such opportunities.

Overall, the survey suggests that many Russians who are currently working abroad are keen to return home. The most popular destinations for those who are ready to move are the US and Canada, but the survey results suggest that many are willing to consider returning to Russia if the right opportunities present themselves. This could be an encouraging sign for the Russian government, which has been grappling with a difficult economic situation and a declining population in recent years.
