Iranian FM Affirms Strong Ties Between Tehran, Riyadh


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MOSCOW, March 29 (KUNA) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian affirmed Wednesday that the contrast in positions between Tehran and Riyadh on some issues does not hinder the development of ties between the two countries.
This came in a joint press conference alongside his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov after their meeting in Moscow.
In the press conference, Amirabdollahian said that the Iranian and Saudi foreign ministers will soon hold a meeting.
"Iran and Saudi Arabia made tangible progress to normalize bilateral relations and agreed to resume diplomatic ties and open consulates in both countries," he said.
On his part, Lavrov said that the discussions with his Iranian counterpart were fruitful and tackled several topics to enhance bilateral ties between the two countries.
He added that the meeting discussed the latest developments in Syria, the Middle East, Palestine, Yemen, Afghanistan and the Caucasus. He also welcomed the return of diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia. (end)
