GCC Condemns Israeli Minister's Call for Destruction of Palestinian Village

(MENAFN) The Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), HE Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi, has confirmed that the GCC sent a joint letter to US Secretary of State H E Antony Blinken condemning the recent statements made by Israeli Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich. The letter specifically addressed Smotrich's call for the destruction of the Palestinian village of Hawara and his denial of the existence of the Palestinian people.
According to Al Budaiwi, the letter reflects the position of the GCC leaders on the Palestinian cause, which is considered the first cause of Arabs and Muslims. This position was previously outlined in the final statement of the 155th session of the Ministerial Council of the Cooperation Council held on March 22, 2023. The statement expressed the GCC's support for the sovereignty of the Palestinian people over all Palestinian lands occupied since June 1967 and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Al Quds as its capital. It also emphasized the importance of guaranteeing all the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and rejecting settlement in the occupied Palestinian lands.
The condemnation of Smotrich's statements highlights the ongoing concern and commitment of the GCC towards the Palestinian cause. The joint letter sent to the US Secretary of State demonstrates a united front among GCC countries in standing against any actions that threaten the sovereignty and rights of the Palestinian people.
