Chinese Foreign Ministry Criticizes US for Accusing Beijing of Bias in Ukraine Conflict
(MENAFN) Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin has criticized the US for accusing Beijing of bias in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Responding to a statement by US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, Wang argued that the US should stop “fanning the flames” of the conflict instead of making accusations against China.
Kirby had claimed that China was not impartial in the conflict, pointing to its failure to condemn Russia’s military operation and continued energy purchases from the country. He also noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping had visited Moscow but had never spoken to his Ukrainian counterpart, Vladimir Zelensky.
Wang rejected Kirby’s claims, arguing that the US was itself too deeply involved in the conflict to accuse China of being biased. The exchange reflects the complex geopolitical dynamics at play in the region, as various countries seek to balance competing interests and alliances.
The conflict in Ukraine has been ongoing since 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea and began supporting separatist rebels in the eastern part of the country. The situation has strained relations between Russia and the West, with a number of countries imposing sanctions on Moscow. The involvement of China, a major global power, adds another layer of complexity to the situation and underscores the need for diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.
