Canadian Competitor In Dragon Boat Event Dies

A Canadian athlete who was in Panama to participate in the 2023 Pan American Dragon Boat Club Championship on the Amador Causeway died yesterday, Thursday, March 16.

The championship has the participation of 92 teams representing 10 countries.

In a statement, the organizing committee said that the athlete received first aid at the event site and was transferred in an ambulance contracted for the activity to a hospital in Panama City.

Argentina, Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, the United States, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, and Trinidad and Tobago are the countries competing in the event, which ends on
Sunday.

Race times are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on d Friday, and on Saturday and Sunday, they will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Before the start of the Friday event a minute of silence was observed in honor of the Canadian athlete.
