Famous Names Left Out of Oscars' In Memoriam Segment Draw Criticism from Fans

(MENAFN) The recent Oscars awards show included its annual in memoriam segment, which honored numerous stars and industry insiders who passed away within the past year. However, some people took note that several notable names were left off the list. One such name was Paul Sorvino, who passed away in July 2022 at the age of 83. Sorvino was known for his memorable performances in films such as "Goodfellas," "Nixon," and on the television series "Law & Order." His wife and daughter, actor Mira Sorvino, expressed disappointment at his exclusion from the in memoriam segment.

Mira Sorvino, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 1995 for her role in "Mighty Aphrodite," took to Twitter to express her disbelief that her father and other "amazing brilliant departed actors" were left out of the tribute. She added that she was reminiscing about sharing her Oscar award with her father on the night of the Oscars show. Mira also called her father her "first and best teacher" and highlighted his lifelong and irreplaceable contribution to the world of cinema.

Meanwhile, Paul Sorvino's wife, Dee Dee Sorvino, shared her own thoughts on the Oscars' in memoriam segment on Instagram. She called the exclusion of her late husband "very wrong and disrespectful" and asked the Academy, "what the hell were you thinking?"

Mira Sorvino also pointed out several other celebrities who were not included in the in memoriam tribute. Social media users noted the absence of Anne Heche, who passed away in 2022 at the age of 53 following a car accident, and Leslie Jordan, who died suddenly at the age of 67 while driving his car in Hollywood due to cardiac dysfunction. Charlbi Dean, who starred in the film "Triangle of Saddness," which was nominated for three Oscars in 2022, was also not honored during the segment. Dean passed away in August 2022 due to bacterial sepsis, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Overall, the exclusion of several notable names from the Oscars' in memoriam segment has caused disappointment and frustration among fans and loved ones of those who were not included.
