ABB Executive Sees China as Key to Company's Global Robotics Business
(MENAFN) According to an executive at Swiss tech giant ABB, China is one of the most advanced automated economies in the world, making it hugely important for the company. ABB's mega factory in Shanghai's Pudong New Area, the largest robotics R&D, manufacturing, and application base for ABB worldwide, represents a 150 million U.S. dollar investment and spans 67,000 square meters. During a recent visit to the factory, Sami Atiya, president of ABB's Robotics and Discrete Automation Business Area, highlighted the significance of China's massive investment in industrial robotics.
Atiya explained that China accounts for more than half of global robot installations in 2021 and has entered the top five ranking of robot density for the first time. He added that China is the fastest growing robot market globally and is expected to double its robots density by 2025. The Shanghai factory, as one of the three ABB robotics manufacturing bases, strengthens ABB's industrial chain layout in China and contributes to the sustainable and high-quality development of China's economy.
Atiya believes that China will continue to unleash new opportunities for robotics and automation. Thus, ABB has been actively collaborating with Chinese universities and scientific research institutions to promote product innovation. The company is also willing to strengthen cooperation with its Chinese customers, participate actively in China's industrial upgrading and economic transformation, and continue to advance innovation in automotive electronic equipment, industrial logistics, medical and pharmaceutical, new energy vehicles, and service industries.
Atiya emphasized that the unprecedented demand of Chinese businesses for automation provides great assurance for ABB's long-term investment in the country. He said that he is very proud of the team and looking forward to the growth that ABB will see in China. In summary, China plays a crucial role in ABB's global robotics business, and the company is committed to strengthening its presence in the country, contributing to its sustainable and high-quality development.
