Iran, West African Countries Discuss Scientific, Economic Cooperation
(MENAFN) Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy, Mehdi Safari, has expressed his belief that the economies of Iran and Africa are complementary to each other, and through collaboration, significant achievements can be accomplished. The official made this statement at the Scientific and Economic Cooperation Meeting Between Iran and West African Countries (IRAN WAC), which commenced on Monday and will run through Wednesday in Tehran.
Safari emphasized that expanding economic cooperation with neighboring countries and, in particular, the African continent was a priority for the Iranian government. He referred to the leader's previous statements on the matter and stated that his administration has made efforts to develop economic diplomacy with Iran's neighbors, with an emphasis on increasing trade with Africa.
In a related development, the Head of Iran's Trade Promotion Organization, Hamid Zadboum Peyman-Pak, announced that Iran was taking necessary steps to boost annual trade exchanges with African countries to $5 billion by the Iranian calendar year 1404, which starts in March 2025. He added that the trade with these countries was projected to reach $2.5 billion by the end of the current Iranian calendar year, which ends on March 20.
The official also disclosed that the country's trade development roadmap had been prepared, outlining major factors like exports and the share of different sectors, including the priorities and objectives for trade with various African countries and the requirements for achieving them. The roadmap would guide Iran's trade efforts with African countries and enhance their collaborative economic relationships.
The IRAN WAC meeting was organized to promote scientific and economic cooperation between Iran and West African countries. It featured several panel discussions, during which experts shared ideas and explored ways to enhance collaboration in various fields, including agriculture, energy, science, and technology.
