UAE's Minister of State for International Co-operation Calls for New Approach to Climate Finance at Raisina Dialogue

(MENAFN) UAE's Minister of State for International Co-operation, Reem Al Hashimy, spoke on the second day of the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi about the inefficiency in allocating funds to countries that are transitioning or in need of capital for development, particularly for climate change action. Ms Al Hashimy stressed that the current business-as-usual approach to climate finance is not sufficient to address the scale of earthquakes, typhoons, floods and droughts that have been occurring on an unprecedented scale. She added that the UAE is committed to finding solutions to the conflicts and challenges in the region and not being victims of them.

Ms Al Hashimy also mentioned that the UAE has shifted its focus to innovation, despite being a population of consumers, and highlighted the significance of education and technology transfers in driving change. The UAE is set to host Cop28, with the bulk of the talks to be held at Expo City Dubai later this year. Dr Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, will lead the crucial 13-day talks in November as the Cop28 President-designate and special envoy on climate change. Ms Al Hashimy expressed her country's commitment to doing things differently as it prepares to host Cop28.
