Payment Card Use On Slight Rise In Ukraine Over 2022 - National Bank


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) In 2022, the number of transactions with the use of payment cards increased by 1.4% in number and by 40.5% in terms of volumes.

This was reported by the press service of the national bank, Ukrinform saw.

'The number of transactions through payment cards issued by Ukrainian banks over May-December 2022 stood at UAH 5,599.2 million, while their total amount was UAH 5,058.2 billion. This is 1.4% more in terms of number and 40.5% more in terms of volumes against the same period of the pre-war year 2021,' the statement reads.

Both in Ukraine and abroad, 5,194.4 million non-cash transactions were completed in the amount of UAH 3,443.9 billion. This is 4.1% more by number and 56.9% by amount against May-December 2021.

At the same time, the number of transactions involving cash receipt through payment cards decreased by 24.1%. Instead, the volume of such transactions was up by 15%, the NBU notes.

Beyond Ukraine, the volume of transactions involving payment cards issued by Ukrainian banks increased significantly, amounting to 7.4% by number and 9.7% of the sum of all transactions involving bank cards (in the same period in 2021, the share of transactions completed abroad was 3.8% by number and 3.9% by volumes).

As reported earlier, referring to Mastercard, in 2022, 59% of Ukrainians purchasing goods and services at retail outlets paid cashless, with half of them using digital bank cards.
