CIA Director warns of disturbing alliance between Russia, Iran amid ongoing Ukraine invasion

(MENAFN) According to a report by CNN, the CIA Director William Burns has expressed concern over the rapidly developing alliance between Russia and Iran, which he deems as "disturbing". Burns revealed that Iran has already supplied Russia with hundreds of armed drones, which are being used to inflict pain on Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure, along with ammunition for artillery and tanks. Furthermore, the CIA has also detected signs that Russia may be offering to assist Iran in their missile program and may be considering providing fighter aircraft in exchange for military aid during the ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

In a discussion with the director of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service, Burns reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin is "too confident" in his ability to grind down Ukraine, and the conversation was "pretty dispiriting". Burns clarified that his goal was not to negotiate, but to make clear the serious consequences of using a nuclear weapon, which he believes both the director and Putin understood.

However, Burns noted that there was a defiant attitude on the part of the director, with a sense of cockiness and hubris reflecting Putin's own belief that he can make time work for him. Putin is confident that he can grind down Ukraine, wear down European allies and wait for political fatigue to set in.

The developments reported by Burns highlight a growing concern among the international community about the situation in Ukraine and the involvement of both Russia and Iran. With the possibility of further military assistance being provided to Iran, the situation remains volatile and unstable.
