China's National People's Congress Standing Committee Concludes 39th Session in Beijing


(MENAFN) China's Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) wrapped up its 39th session in Beijing on Friday. During the closing meeting, lawmakers passed several decisions and reports, including the removal of Tang Yijun from his post as Minister of Justice and the appointment of He Rong to the position. President Xi Jinping signed a presidential order to promulgate the decision.

In addition, lawmakers approved a decision on adjusting the application of certain provisions of the Criminal Procedure Law for the military during wartime. They also adopted the committee's work report and approved a report reviewing the qualifications of the 14th NPC deputies, confirming the validity of 2,977 deputies. The validity of some 13th NPC deputies was also confirmed, with a total of 2,918 deputies currently serving.

Other bills of appointments or removals were approved during the meeting, along with several documents such as a draft agenda of the first session of the 14th NPC, a draft name list of the presidium and secretary-general, and a name list of people invited to sit in on the session as non-voting participants.

In his address to the closing meeting, Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, praised the committee's progress over the past five years, stating that it had focused on the central task of the Party and the country and fulfilled its duties and responsibilities. Li emphasized the vitality of the system of people's congresses, urging efforts to ensure the success of the upcoming annual NPC session in March.

Before the closing meeting, Li chaired a meeting of the Council of Chairpersons of the NPC Standing Committee. The session's conclusion marks another step forward in China's ongoing legislative agenda, as the country continues to strengthen its governance and legislative processes.
