(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia's defense industry is set to experience a boost with the launch of Saudi Arabian Military Industries' (SAMI) new ‘Land System Center of Excellence’ project, which will create hundreds of new jobs in the sector. SAMI's CEO, Walid Abukhaled, shared details about the new center, stating that the project has received board approval and support, and is in its design phase. The facility will focus on the development of land system vehicles, including four-by-fours, six-by-sixes, and eight-by-eights.
This project is part of SAMI's goal to become one of the top 25 defense companies globally by 2030, with the backing of Saudi Arabia's leadership. Last year, the firm collaborated with global company Lockheed Martin to establish a Composites Manufacturing Center of Excellence, which aims to enhance the Kingdom's aerospace manufacturing capabilities. Abukhaled expressed his appreciation to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and said that his Vision 2030 initiative has been instrumental in driving SAMI's growth.
Speaking exclusively on the sidelines of the International Defence Exhibition in Abu Dhabi, Abukhaled highlighted the significance of the latest project, stating that it would boost the defense industry in Saudi Arabia and help create more job opportunities for Saudi citizens. With the new facility set to become operational in the next two years, SAMI is poised for further expansion in the coming years.
