Peru Assumes Chair Of The OAS Council For Integral Development

WASHINGTON, USA – The Permanent Representative of Peru, Harold Forsyth, Friday assumed the chair of the Council for Integral Development (CIDI) of the Organization of American States (OAS), during a virtual ceremony.

Ambassador Forsyth highlighted CIDI's work plan aimed at protecting the hemisphere's natural resources.“With the support of the executive secretariat of the Council under the leadership of Kim Osborne, we have agreed that our meetings will focus on sustainable development with an emphasis on climate change,” added the Peruvian diplomat.

For her part, the Permanent Representative of Grenada and outgoing of CIDI, Yolande Smith, thanked the OAS secretary general, Luis Almagro, for the support of the General Secretariat for the work of CIDI.

“I urge you to continue to prioritize the issues of development, so we can realize the goals of the organization. Development is a core purpose of the OAS, and the development agenda is a critical to the well-being of our people,” added ambassador Smith.

The chair of CIDI rotates every six months.
