US, India Partnership Aimed At Competing China In Arms And AI

The United States is launching a new partnership with India aimed at helping both countries to compete against China on military equipment, semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI).

To counter China's fast-growing economic development in different domains, smartphones and chips in particular, Washington wants to start a new partnership with India. This new move is aimed at deploying more Western mobile phone networks in the Indian subcontinent to compete with China's Huawei Technologies Co Ltd.

Furthermore, Washington plans to welcome more Indian computer chip specialists to the United States and to encourage companies from both countries to collaborate on military equipment like artillery systems.

The new partnership may have many implications for both countries in different aspects. India has been dependent on Russian military hardware for a long time, while the U.S. can address the issue and removes restrictions on military technology transfer to India.

Jake Sullivan, Biden's National Security Advisor, and his Indian counterpart, Ajit Doval, met with senior officials of both countries at the White House on Tuesday to launch the U.S.– India initiative on critical and emerging technologies.

China's economic practices and aggressive military moves put the country in a position to dominate the industries and control the supply chains of the future – threatening the economic well-being of the region and the world in the long term, Sullivan said.

Meanwhile, the White House is frustrated with New Delhi for conducting joint military exercises with Russia and increasing purchases of Russian crude oil, a key source of funding for Russia's war in Ukraine.

Currently, the United States has to compete with both China and Russia in military and economic domains. U.S. and NATO member states continue supporting military equipment and ammunition to Ukraine to resist Russian invasion, whereas, Moscow looks for every economic opportunity to boost its economy and keep military supplies to its forces on the battlefield.
