Persian Gulf states market is chance for Iran to export flowers

(MENAFN) The market of Persian Gulf littoral states is a good chance for Iran to export flowers and ornamental plants.

The export of flowers and ornamental plants has a great extra value for the nation, and if the flower producers receive support from the administration, they can control the market of the Persian Gulf nations.

Iran ranks 17th in the world in the production of flowers and ornamental plants, but it is in 107th place in terms of export.

On an annual basis, three billion flowers and ornamental plants are produced in the nation, of which only 300 million are exported. 50 percent of the produced flowers are sold locally and the rest is thrown away.

As said by the chairman of the Flower Retailers' Association of Tehran, flowers and ornamental plants use for every capita in Iran is 20, while the number is 150 to 250 in the world.

“We must have mass production to reduce the price of flowers”, on the words of Gholam-Hossein Soltan-Mohammadi.
