Two Migrants Drown Off N. Lebanon


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BEIRUT, Dec 31 (KUNA) -- The Lebanese Naval Force, in collaboration with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), recovered the bodies of two migrants and rescued 232 others after their boat capsized near the northern coastline of Lebanon on Saturday.
The deadly accident occurred off Selaata town, according to a tweet by the Lebanese Army Command.
The ill-fated migrants were attempting to exit the territorial waters of Lebanon through illegal means; they were rushed to the port of Tripoli.
Prime Minister Najib Mikati regretted the tragedy and praised the Lebanese and UNIFIL forces for their prompt response to the incident. (end)
