Ramallah: The Palestinian Presidency today welcomed the United Nations General Assembly's resolution asking the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to give an advisory opinion on the legal consequences of Israel's illegal Occupation of Palestinian territories.

Palestinian presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh said that the resolution is evidence of the whole world's support for Palestinian people and their inalienable historical rights.

Quoted by Palestinian WAFA news agency, Abu Rudeineh said 'the time has come for Israel to be a state under the law, and to be held accountable for its ongoing crimes against our people. The world must shoulder its responsibilities and implement the resolutions of international legitimacy, and everyone must stop the double standards.'

He stressed that 'the Palestinian leadership will not leave a door without knocking it to protect our Palestinian people. We are now awaiting the International Court of Justice to request a legal advisory opinion on the Israeli colonial regime.'

He said that 'resorting to international institutions is a Palestinian right and we will continue to join international bodies and institutions.'

The UN General Assembly voted last night on the resolution with 87 states voting in favor, 26 opposed, and 53 countries abstaining.
