UN rejects backing for establishing fresh gov’t in Libya
(MENAFN) The UN mission in Libya on Thursday rejected reports around backing the formation of an additional administration in the conflict-torn nation.
In an announcement, the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) urged on Libyan competitors to refrain from any movements that might endanger the “fragile stability” in the nation.
Domestic media mentioned in reports emerged on Wednesday around UN ambassador Abdoulaye Bathily’s eagerness to form an additional administration in Libya, in an attempt to solve the war in the nation.
“UNSMIL notes false online reports that SRSG Bathily plans to announce a new roadmap, including a new government,” the mission stated in an announcement.
“This sort of fake news is aimed at generating confusion about the current political process and in particular the role of UNSMIL which is not to impose but to support a Libyan-Libyan solution,” it also stated.
The UN mission urged on all sides “to refrain from any actions that could threaten Libya’s fragile stability, including spreading misleading and unfounded information.”
Bathily “stresses that any roadmap should be designed through inclusive dialogue among Libyan stakeholders acting in full respect of the rights, interests and aspirations of all Libyan people to be governed by legitimate leadership and institutions,” the statement added.
