Principal Green Land School M Ashraf Jan Passes Away

Srinagar- Principal Green Land Higher Second­ary School Muhammad Mohammad Ashraf Jan passed away on Tuesday at Medanta Hospital, fam­ily sources said.

He passed away after prolonged ill­ness in New Delhi, his son Suhail Jan informed in a social media post.

“His death has ended an era of hard work and selfless service towards so­ciety” Suhail Jan said.

His demise is being widely mourned as he is credited for shaping the career of thousands of students in down­town Srinagar.

It is pertinent to men­tion, few decades back Muhammad Ashraf estab­lished Green Land School from“few small” rooms in Zadibal. In contemporary times it has transformed into an Education movement in downtown Srinagar.

Syed Shakeel Qalan­dar, prominent business­man described his demise as a great loss to the society.

Paying tribute to the late Principal, Journalist Peerzada Ashiq who has been an alumni of Green Land School penned down a lengthy note on his Face­book account.

“Mr Ashraf was al­ways meticulously dressed with a quintessentially well-oiled hair style, he was an imposing but mo­tivating personality all his life. His husky voice, well-paused sentences and sophisticated demeanor al­ways left an imprint on the students” Ashiq wrote.

“The last I remember of him is this young and agile principal, in white dress, leaning against the white colored Fait car and stopping the late-comers in the 1990s. He would quiz students. Leave the polite students and punish the repeat offenders. Despite the huge rolls, he would segregate the best and the worst ones in a jiffy”

Hundreds of other students also paid their tributes to the educationist who has played a pivotal role in the upliftment of education in the Hawal lo­cality of Old City.

“I am personally in­debted to him for grooming and honing us. He indeed moulded us from born as a man to a well-aware and responsible human being. Thanks for being there.” Ashiq mourned his men­tor's demise.
