Former US president must pay USD1M to Clinton

Date:

(MENAFN) Hillary Clinton, a former contender for the United States presidency, filed legal documents on Monday in an effort to compel Donald Trump to pay her more than USD1 million. In the action, she seeks reimbursement for the money she used defending herself against claims that she had conspired to harm Trump's 2016 campaign by alleging that he had ties to Russia.

According to a petition in a federal court in Florida, Clinton's legal team called Trump's civil lawsuit, which was dropped earlier this year, ridiculous and "a political stunt." Attorneys suggested that it should result in sanctions of USD1.06 million, which would be used to pay for charges and legal bills.

Attorneys for Clinton wrote, “a reasonable attorney would never have filed this suit, let alone continued to prosecute it after multiple defendants’ motions to dismiss highlighted its fundamental and incurable defects.”

Trump filed a complaint in March alleging that Clinton, the DNC, Jake Sullivan, the United States National Security Advisor, and several other individuals participated in a deliberate conspiracy to falsely accuse his campaign of working with Russia in an effort to destroy his election prospects. The rumors, according to Trump at the time, cost him more than USD24 million.
