The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) announced that Danish and South Korean contributions totaling $10 million have been made toward the education of children in Afghanistan.
UNICEF's Afghanistan division tweeted on Friday, the 28th of October, that new donations of $5 million each came from South Korea and Denmark to support education in Afghanistan.
The agency
has clarified that, in collaboration with other relevant
organizations, they will increase educational initiatives for both boys and girls in Afghanistan.
According to a tweet from UNICEF,“South Korea's $5 million enables
the UNICEF to improve children's learning outcomes through better-prepared and supported teachers in Afghanistan.”
The UNICEF further stated that Denmark's $5 million will be used to construct 600 community-based learning spaces (CBEs) and strengthen 275 already-existing ones.
According to UNICEF, the funding will be used to support and develop local trades through a community-based education program.
This week, UNICEF said that as of September, it had supported 389,000 children, of whom 60% were girls,“through existing and new community-based education.”
Despite the Taliban regime's ban on girls attending schools past the sixth grade, Afghanistan continues to receive financial support through UNICEF to support with education in the country.
