Due to possibility of hacking, Australian insurance has taken its systems down

(MENAFN) Following a probable cyberattack, one of Australia's largest private health insurers has taken systems offline, only weeks after a major Telecom provider was involved in one of the country's greatest data breaches.

After discovering "strange activity on its network," Medibank Group stated on Thursday that it has contacted cybersecurity specialists and taken actions to secure its systems.

The insurer, which has over four million members in Australia, stated that it has yet to discover evidence that sensitive data had been accessed as a result of the incident.

“As part of our response to this incident, Medibank will be isolating and removing access to some customer-facing systems to reduce the likelihood of damage to systems or data loss,” the company claimed in an announcement.

Medibank CEO David Koczkar apologized and stated that the company was "working around the clock" to determine the scope of the problem and how clients could be affected.

“Our highest priority is resolving this matter as transparently and quickly as possible,” Koczkar asserted.
